Transfer Tank Features That Protect the Tank and the Ride
The WEATHER GUARD Transfer Tank brings several protective features into one steel system. Understanding what each feature does helps owners install the tank correctly, recognize problems early and choose a configuration for the truck and job.
Rounded Corners Reinforce Common Stress Areas
A truck bed is a demanding environment. Road vibration, liquid movement and repeated loading can concentrate stress at abrupt transitions. The rounded-corner design reinforces areas that are common failure points and is intended to help stop cracks before they start.
Rounded corners do not eliminate the need for correct mounting. The tank still needs clearance from the bed and nearby equipment so vibration cannot create a rubbing or impact point.
Integrated Mounting Tabs Simplify a Critical Connection
The tank-to-truck connection must control movement without creating unnecessary stress. Integrated mounting tabs reduce separate stress points and make it easier to locate and fasten the tank. Because the tabs are part of the tank design, installers should use them exactly as the model instructions show rather than adding unapproved brackets or drilling into the tank body.
Isolation Mounting Absorbs Road Vibration
Rubber isolation bushings absorb vibration from the road and truck bed. They need the correct hardware order and compression to work as designed. If fasteners are overtightened, the bushings can be crushed and lose isolation; if they are too loose, the tank can move, causing premature failure. Inspect the bushings after installation and periodically in service.
Interior Baffles Reduce Slosh
As a truck accelerates, brakes or turns, liquid moves inside the tank. Interior baffles interrupt that movement. Reduced slosh can help steady the load and make the truck's response more predictable. The baffles also add internal structure to the tank.
Baffles do not cancel the effects of load weight or a partially filled tank. Drivers should still allow extra following distance, turn smoothly and adapt to changing load conditions.
The Lockable Vented Cap Manages Access and Pressure Changes
A lockable cap helps control access to the fill opening. Its venting function is equally important: liquid removal and temperature changes can create vacuum or pressure inside a closed tank. The vent allows the tank to breathe as designed.
- Keep the vent path clean and unobstructed.
- Open the cap carefully and follow the tank instructions.
- Never substitute a solid, non-vented cap unless specifically approved.
- Never intentionally pressurize the tank.
- Match pump flow and system components to the published tank requirements.
The 2-Inch NPT Threaded Neck Supports a Practical Dispensing Setup
The threaded neck provides a direct location for a compatible transfer pump or fitting. A matching thread is only the first check. The pump must also be approved for the liquid and matched to the tank's venting, filter, electrical and flow requirements. Use compatible sealants and fittings specified for the liquid and application.
ARMOR TUF® Powder Coat Protects the Steel Exterior
The tanks are finished in White or Matte Black ARMOR TUF® Powder Coat. The coating protects the steel surface in demanding work environments and provides a durable finished appearance. Like any coating, it should be inspected after impacts, abrasion or exposure to corrosive material. Clean the surface and repair damage using WEATHER GUARD guidance before corrosion can spread.
A Feature-by-Feature Inspection Routine
- Corners and seams: Look for deformation, cracking, coating loss or leakage.
- Mounting tabs and fasteners: Check security, alignment and signs of movement.
- Isolation bushings: Check for crushing, splitting, hardening or missing components.
- Cap and vent: Confirm the cap closes and locks and the vent remains clear.
- Pump connection and fittings: Inspect for looseness, seepage and incompatible components.
- Hose and nozzle: Look for abrasion, cuts, damaged seals and unsafe routing.
- Powder coat: Clean contamination and address chips or scratches promptly.
Design Works as a System
Rounded corners, mounting tabs, isolation bushings, baffles, venting and coating solve different problems, but they depend on one another. A strong tank can still be damaged by an incorrect mount. A vented cap cannot compensate for an incompatible pump. Baffles cannot correct an overloaded truck. The best result comes from selecting, installing, operating and maintaining the complete system as directed.
